Athena saw the three goddess girls read the sign. They looked left before finally spotting the door on the right. She pounded on the window again. At last the girls looked up. Seeing her, they smiled and waved.

“I’m locked in!” Athena shouted down to them. They cupped their ears as if they couldn’t quite hear her. “I can’t get out!” she shouted.

Persephone nodded to show she understood. “Wait there!” she shouted back.

Ha! Athena thought. Like she had a choice!

Aphrodite knocked on the right door. It opened up, and the girls and Oliver entered the palace.

Now Athena began to worry. What would Circe do to her friends? Would she lock them up too? Or try to take their faces? Or turn them into statues like Heracles and Yellow Wing? Back at school, most kids thought she was smart. But a smart girl would have found a way to warn her friends. Instead, she’d only caused trouble. Some goddess she was turning out to be!

Moments later, she heard the sound of a key turning in the door’s lock. Click!
